Once your tax data has been shared with Sovos, either through Batch Determination or Global Tax Determination, you can use Filing to track which returns are being prepared, which are in the process of being filed, and which have been filed already.
My Returns
When you log in to Sovos Filing, you'll see the My Returns dashboard with a list of all the returns that will be filed in a given filing period.
The My Returns dashboard shows some basic information for each return:
- Due: The due date to the tax authority. Sovos automatically assigns the due date based on taxing authority guidance, but you can choose to override this date.
- State: The state in which each return is due.
- Return: The name of the return.
- Legal Entity: The individual or organization that is required by the taxing authority to file returns.
- Status: There are six status options: Not started, Preparing..., Ready to file, Filing..., Filed, and On Hold. Click here to learn about what these statuses mean.
- Amount Due: The amount due to the taxing authority.
- At the end of each row, a padlock icon shows whether a return is locked or unlocked. You can modify a return with the help of your preparer until your return reaches the “Filing…” status. At this point, the return gets locked so that your preparer can confidently file the return that you reviewed.
You can use the < > arrows or the calendar icon to switch between filing periods.
You can also filter the returns by state and/or status.
