How to upload tax data from your Amazon store

Exporting sales data from Amazon

To export sales data from Amazon, you can download an Amazon Payment Custom Date Range Report with the following custom view:

  • Includes Amazon Marketplace, Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), and Amazon Webstore transactions
  • All amounts in USD, unless otherwise specified

To download this report, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Amazon Seller Central.
  2. Click the menu icon in the upper left corner of the screen.

  3. Go to Reports > Payments.

  4. Click Date Range Reports.

  5. Click Generate Report.

  6. For the report type, select Transaction. Select either a month or custom date range. The custom range must be equal to or less than 365 days.

  7. Click Generate.
  8. Amazon will generate the report. When it's ready, you'll see the option to download the report under the Action heading. Click Download to save it as a CSV file.

Preparing your file

  1. Make sure your file is in CSV UTF-8 format.
  2. Add a column with the header marketplace code. Leave the rows under the header empty.
  3. Add a column with the header exempt. Leave the rows under the header empty.
  4. Make sure there are no completely blank columns in between the columns with headers in the file. Unhide hidden columns to make sure you're viewing the entire document. Empty columns after the final named column are fine.
  5. Make sure your column headers start on row 8 of the file. Amazon Marketplace transaction reports typically contain report descriptions and other metadata in rows 1 through 7, so the Sovos Amazon template is set up to skip these first seven rows. If your report has fewer than 7 rows, insert additional blank rows so that your header row starts on row eight.

  6. Sovos processes the following Amazon report fields automatically. These are mandatory fields, so make sure that all of them are in the file you’re uploading:

Amazon Field Sovos Field
date/time Document Date
order id Document number
quantity Quantity
order city Ship to City
order state Ship to State/Province
order postal Ship to Postal Code
tax collection model Good/Service Code Description
product sales Gross Amount
product sales tax Tax Amount

Uploading your sales data to Batch Determination

  1. Log in to Batch Determination.
  2. Click Add Transactions.

  3. Select Amazon Transaction Report.

  4. Click Browse to select your CSV file or drag and drop the file into the box.

  5. Click Continue.

  6. You’ll see a success screen with details once your data has been uploaded.

Transaction data must be uploaded by the fourth business day of each month. If the data is not uploaded by then, Sovos can’t guarantee that the return will be filed on time in that filing period.

Always use Batch Determination to upload your tax data. Don't try to add data from the Imports menu in Filing.

Submitting your data for filing

If the data in the uploaded file is final and won’t change, click Save to Database. Click Save for Filing on the popup message to submit it for filing.

The data will show up in Sovos Filing within 24 hours as return(s) waiting to be prepared. You can track the status of these returns in Sovos Filing. To learn more about how Sovos Filing works, read this article.
