How to upload tax data from your eBay store

Exporting sales data from eBay

  1. Log into your eBay account.
  2. Go to eBay Managed payments on the eBay Seller Hub.
  3. Go to the Payments tab and select Reports.
  4. You can download reports for transactions over a specific period and/or filtered by status.
  5. Select the report parameters and click Create Report.

Preparing your file

  1. Add a column to the report file with the header tax. Sovos will use this column to combine any values in Sales Tax and eBay Collected Tax into a single record called tax, which will map with the Tax Amount field in Sovos.
  2. Add a column to the file with the header marketplace code.
  3. Add a column to the file with header exempt.
  4. Make sure that the date format for Order Date is MM/DD/YYYY.
  5. Make sure that your file is in CSV UTF-8 format.
  6. Sovos processes the following eBay report fields automatically. These are mandatory fields, so make sure that all of them are in the file you’re uploading.

Uploading your sales data to Batch Determination

  1. Log in to Batch Determination.
  2. Click Add Transactions.

  3. Select eBay Template.

  4. Click Browse to select your CSV file or drag and drop it.

  5. Click Continue.

  6. You’ll see a success screen with details once your data has been uploaded.

Transaction data must be uploaded by the fourth business day of each month. If the data is not uploaded by then, Sovos can’t guarantee that the return will be filed on time in that filing period.

Always use Batch Determination to upload your tax data. Don’t try to add data from the Imports menu in Filing.

Submitting your data for filing

If the data in the uploaded file is final and won’t change, click Save to Database. Click Save for Filing on the popup message to submit it for filing.

The data will show up in Sovos Filing within 24 hours as return(s) waiting to be prepared. You can track the status of these returns in Sovos Filing. To learn more about how Sovos Filing works, read this article.
