A location is a physical place of business. Some jurisdictions require tax to be reported at the location level.
Before adding a location in Sovos Filing, you must first add a return related to the location in State and Local Returns.
Add a location (non-Colorado)
- Go to Settings > Locations, then click Add.
- Fill in the following information:
- Legal Entity: The legal entity for this location.
- Location Code: A code created by your organization to identify a location that you sell goods or services to or from.
- Return: The return related to the location.
- After you select a return, more location fields will appear. Fill in the location information.
- Click Save.
Add a Colorado location
- Go to Settings > Locations.
- Click Import CO locations.
- Click Select File, then select your Business Location Rates TXT file. This file is specific to your organization, and you can download it from the Colorado Department of Revenue website.
- Once your locations have been imported, click Finish.
Edit a location
You can edit the Location Code and Address fields.
- Go to Settings > Outlets, then click the location you want to edit.
- Make your changes, then click Save.
Deactivate a location
- Go to Settings > Locations and select the box next to the location or locations you want to deactivate, then click the Deactivate button.
- A message will appear warning you that once you deactivate a location, you can't reactivate it. Click Deactivate to deactivate the location.
Locations that you deactivate will appear on the Locations page with the Inactive status and can't be selected or edited.
